What is a Health and Wellbeing Coach?

Generally, a coach is someone that helps you find and build your inner resources to achieve your goals.  So, a health and wellbeing coach has the specialist knowledge to support you in finding and building your resources to improve your overall health and wellbeing across multiple areas – often combining psychological (mind) and physiological (body) approaches.

Health and Wellbeing coaches have the expertise to help you with:

  • Stopping unhelpful habits
  • Starting helpful habits
  • Wellness goal development and achievement
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Stress management
  • Workplace wellness

You may have noticed that we also have a therapist, Mark, on our team.  You would work with a therapist to address mental health concerns and the focus will be different than that of coaching.  As a member of our service, you have access to both coaching and therapy.

What does 'access to all of our team' mean?

As a monthly member, you will have access to a number of full and half sessions per month.  Those sessions can be taken with any of our team (assuming thier availability of course).

So, if you have two main sessions per month, you might have one with coach Mark and one with our personal trainer Leah.  Or, you might have both with the same person – and the next month it might be different.  It’s all about what will work best to get you where you want to go!

Are sessions online or face to face?

Usually, sessions will be online – via Microsoft Teams or Zoom, or sometimes by phone if that’s preferred.

That’s not to say we can’t meet face to face.  If we’re in close proximity we may sometimes mutually agree on a face-to-face meeting place and time.

What does 'support' look like?

Often it’s helpful to share regular updates about how things are going, perhaps several times a week which can help us stay on track.  It might be that a little extra regular support is helpful to keep going through something challenging.  Perhaps you have a question that you don’t want to save for the next session.

So, we use WhatsApp (or an alternative like email) to provide this more regular support.  It might just be a few words in either direction, knowing that someone else cares about how you’re getting on can be really helpful.

What can I expect at an appointment?

Wellbeing coaching will help you create goals for improved wellness while providing accountability and support for achieving those goals. Individual appointments range from 20 – 50 minutes and group coaching sessions are typically 60 minutes.

At our practice, you may meet with our head coach or one of our specialists, depending on your needs and goals.

A typical meeting includes a check-in of how things have been, progress towards goals, dealing with obstacles, and agreeing on next steps.  It might also include some training or educational element, and sometimes the completion or review of questionnaires.

What happens if I am a new client?

The most important next step is to get to know you – learn about your circumstances, goals, challenges and desires so that we can work with you as an individual.

After an initial conversation, we’ll ask you to review an agreement which identifies how we will work together (not specific goals, a more general coaching agreement) and decide if you’d like to join a programme with us.

Then, we’ll get down to developing a plan to meet your goals, with specific actions to take you where you want to go and agree on the best way to support you along the way.

Do you offer coaching in organisations?

We do work in organisations.  Whether as a service offering support to a self-selecting range of employees, or specific individuals, or as a part of an employee health plan.

Do speak with Mark to discuss your requirements.

Do you offer shorter or longer than 6-month membership?

Making any significant change requires longer than most of us think.  Often we’ve spent our whole lives developing the habits of who we are now.  Mostly, I suspect, you’re happy with a lot of what you’ve built!  Though, most of us have also created ways of being that we now find are not so helpful, even if they once were!  Which is presumably why you’re seeking us out.

So, we get things started with a proper commitment in time.

What if it takes longer than six months?  You could commit to a further six months, or we’ll create something custom, just for you!  After all, we should know each other reasonably well after the work we’ve done together.

And, what if you’ve achieved what you wanted in record time?  If that means you feel like you no longer need the support of your coach and you’ve prepaid for your six months, then we’ll process a pro-rater refund, no problem!

Do you offer individual sessions rather than a membership?

Yes, we can offer this.  Perhaps you’re looking for a couple of more educational sessions or just to have a session or two to bounce ideas off.

This isn’t the path to long-term change, but you’re the one in charge.  So, typically for £50-£80 per 50-minute session, we’d be happy to support you.  Get in touch.

Billing

If you’ve chosen to pay in 6-month blocks or to take the optional Firstbeat device and service, then we’ll provide an invoice which can be paid with a bank transfer or with a credit card.

If you prefer the pay-monthly option we’ll ask you to set up a standing order, or we’ll set up a recurring payment via our credit card payment provider (Stripe).

Refunds

If you’re paying monthly, then we will cancel the monthly subscription from the next month so we won’t take any more payments (do bear in mind, that there is usually a cut-off of about 5 days from which a payment can’t be cancelled).  Of course, if you have set up a standing order, then you would cancel it directly – though, please do let your coach know in advance (coaches are working on your behalf outside of the meetings they have with you, so this is a courtesy to stop any unnecessary work taking place).

What if you’ve signed up for six months of coaching and something happens that means you can’t complete it?

In normal circumstances, this won’t be a surprise to your coach, and if you have paid for a 6-month block of coaching, they will be able to process a pro-rater refund for unused whole months, less any costs such as credit card processors who do not refund their fees.

What if I decide I just don’t want to continue?

Firstly, speak with your coach, they are there to support you!  If you really can’t continue, then we’ll offer a refund for unused whole months, less any costs such as credit card processors that do not refund their fees.

For example:

  • I’ve paid £1,836 using a credit card for 6 months of coaching.
  • After 10 weeks, I realise I can’t continue and let my coach know.
  • There are three whole months remaining, that’s £918, less £25.90 credit card processing, we’ll refund £892.10 back to your credit card.

(Currently, there are no fees for paying with a bank transfer)
